I think for me my theme develops organically. I start out plotting, outlining a bit, and then jumping into the story. When I get a good piece in I take a step back and think about the concept I'm trying to portray with my story and from there I come up with my theme.
Omen .....you are funny to the point of ridiculous sometimes....You do make a few valid points...but some of us ARE subtle and appreciate subtleties....you prolly dump hotsauce on all your food too, for lack of appreication of subtle flavors? Lord knows my husband and one of my little ones does the same thing too!
The Muse leaves you in a zen cloud of well being, positive energy and creative fire. You find yourself succumbing to the overwhelming urge to write and create.......
By resident authors, do you mean inhouse? Otherwise, I'm not real sure how I come up with them. Its just at some point its not there, then boom it pops up. I do sometimes feel they come from somewhere outside myself.
Well its kind of weird, my themes just pop up randomly as I outline. Basically I evaluate where a certain story is going, before i determine a theme. If I like where its going, I then rewrite it later to better make since with the theme, by taking out plotholes.
I also write from my weird dreams, which I'll go into in another thread.
I like to develop my characters within the story first.
Whatever my story will be about, once I do my character profiles, it is far easier for me to come up with my theme for the story. The way this works for me is: I will have come to know my characters. I will know their likes and dislikes. I can place them in situations in the story and things will just fall into place. They will pretty much throw the theme off the pages at me.
One of the characters might be pathetic, one might be crazy and another one funny. During their interactions, whatever theme I might have chosen for the story just won’t fit with them and as Omen said; “It’s my job to be creative.” Not the readers. They are reading my story for entertainment and when I create characters with personalities and then conveniently change them to fit my theme, the creativity will be lost.
To me the theme is the main focus of the story when it is laid out. Everything must go full circle around the theme. All conflicts will be centered around the theme. When writing, and I hit writers block, it’s usually because the theme has been lost at some point.

I don't really consider myself an author but... I would like to put in my two cents and Omen you need help.
When I write I don't have a goal in mind , I just get an idea and write about it. It doesn't have to make sense and you don't even have to finish it, because sooner or later you'll come back to that same writing and have more and better ideas. I can't organize my thoughts, I have to write as soon as I get a genius idea or even a dumb idea.
In my opinion every author has certain books that they write, there's a theme they always follow, it's like their signiture. These authors were inspired by their favorite books and beginner authors got their inspiration from authors that used to be in their position.
If your going to write a story make sure it's on a theme you love, and make sure YOU would actually read it.
“Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” -H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Omen: Get in line, I have been working like crazy also. I have two major projects I have to finish and hopefully everything slows down. Haven't had time to log into the board... I actually miss it. It feels good popping my head in to see what's going on.

g40t90yes: Good Morning. Now I am no political activist, but with is going on in today's activist world, I have a question. Last Sunday Vice President Pence walked out of a Colts Football game because the Players took a knee. I would like to read your View about this

g40t90yes: Continue. Now The NFL Owners (Jones-Cowboys, Ross-Dolphins) are going to demand their players stand for the Anthem. Again just thinking out loud. Couple of weeks ago Owners (Jones) knelt with players. Now you are pulling back. Why??

g40t90yes: One more thing. Some people view The NFL Draft and NBA Draft as a modern day or fashionable auction block for black young men. Thoughts!!! Please.

The Muse: Im sure there are going to be a lot of thoughts on this...why not start a thread on the topic under the "chat" board. It will be easier for everyone to read and comment on it there. This shoutbox is kinda cumbersome to have to scroll through to read stuff.

The Muse: Where does the time go?
Nov 7, 2017 9:26:16 GMT -5
Omen: I don't know... some say time goes around in circles - for me, its just a dreary long squiggly line, in some places in its a smile, in others... its not.
